The University of Ilorin has announced the introduction of paternity leave for its male staff members. The university’s Registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla, revealed this development during a press briefing on Monday.
Alfanla explained that the decision to implement paternity leave stemmed from the recent amendment of the university’s Conditions of Service, aimed at enhancing the working conditions for its staff. Under the new provision, male officers will be entitled to a 14-working-day paternity leave when their partners give birth.
“Paternity leave is applicable to male officers whose spouses have recently delivered a baby, and the duration of the leave is set at 14 working days. Additionally, if a male officer’s family adopts a child under four months old, the officer will also be eligible for a 14-working-day paternity leave,” Alfanla stated.
