9mobile Encourages Journalists to Establish Vibrant Online Communities Through Quarterly Capacity Building

9mobile, a staunch supporter of professional growth in journalism, recently conducted its quarterly capacity-building session for journalists, recognizing their pivotal role in shaping narratives and fostering meaningful online and offline discussions. The session, led by Oluwatosin Olaseinde, Founder of Money Africa and Ladda, a financial literacy and investment platform (Edtech and Fintech) boasting a community of over 300,000 individuals.

In its seventh edition, the 9mobile capacity-building session centered around the theme “Building Online Communities for Journalistic Exploits,” with the aim of providing journalists the necessary skills to enhance engagement, collaboration, and impact through digital platforms.

During her presentation, Olaseinde outlined straightforward steps for developing online community-building strategies, managing online communities, employing audience engagement techniques, leveraging social media platforms, and ensuring sustainable community growth. She emphasized, “Recognizing the potential of online communities to facilitate dialogue and collective participation between the media and their audience is crucial. The first step is to identify your target audience, define community goals, and craft engaging content that ensures vibrant discussions and interactions.”

Olaseinde stressed the importance of tailoring messaging to specific demographics, such as Gen Zs using TikTok or millennials and baby boomers primarily on WhatsApp, X, and Facebook. She shared her personal experience, detailing how her deep understanding of financial literacy led to the creation of an ecosystem of financially literate individuals through her platform, Money Africa and Ladda.

In response to the session, Chineze Amanfo, 9mobile’s Public Relations lead, highlighted the transformation of journalism in the digital landscape and the need for innovative approaches to engage audiences and establish meaningful connections. Amanfo urged journalists to apply the techniques discussed during the session, creating and nurturing online communities that transcend geographical boundaries. She encouraged harnessing digital platforms for knowledge dissemination, audience engagement, and amplifying impactful stories.

Amanfo expressed confidence that the knowledge imparted during the training would empower participants to establish and manage vibrant online communities, maximizing their online presence and effectively engaging with their audience. She commended journalists for their consistent participation in the 9mobile Capacity Building sessions and reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting their professional development.
