EKEDC PARTNERS WITH INSTITUTE OF COUNSELING IN NIGERIA FOR MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK

Eko Electric Distribution Company (EKEDC) partners with the Institute of Counseling in Nigeria for Mental Health Awareness Week 2023. This collaboration aims to promote mental health awareness and well-being among EKEDC’s employees and the general public.

Mental well-being plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health and wellness. Regrettably, mental health problems often face social stigma, resulting in limited awareness and support. EKEDC acknowledges the significance of mental health and is dedicated to fostering it among its employees and the wider community.

Every year, Mental Health Awareness Week is observed to raise awareness about mental health issues and promote mental well-being. The current focus is on anxiety, aiming to shine a light on its impact on people’s lives.

Anxiety, a prevalent mental health disorder affecting millions worldwide, can manifest in various forms such as panic attacks, social anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Despite its widespread occurrence, anxiety is often stigmatized, leading many individuals to suffer silently.

The Institute of Counseling in Nigeria is a prominent organization in the field of mental health and well-being, offering extensive expertise in providing support and training to individuals and organizations on mental health matters. The partnership with EKEDC exemplifies the shared commitment of both entities to promote mental health awareness and well-being.

Under the leadership of Executive Director Dr. Tinuade Sanda, EKEDC prioritizes the mental health of its staff and has established a longstanding partnership with the Institute of Counseling. Various mental health initiatives have been implemented, including workshops, seminars, and training sessions covering topics like stress management, emotional intelligence, and mindfulness.

Dr. Tolu Oko-Igaire, the Executive Director of the Institute of Counseling, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with EKEDC to advance mental health awareness and well-being. This collaboration will enable us to reach a wider audience and provide support to those in need. Together, we believe we can make a significant impact on mental health in Nigeria.”
