Experts Highlight the Influence of AI-Powered Tools on Communication Practice at the 8th Lagos Digital PR Summit

Public Relations experts have emphasized the lasting impact of artificial intelligence-powered tools on communication practices, acknowledging their increasing significance.

This affirmation was made during the eighth edition of the Lagos Digital PR Summit, which concluded on October 19, 2023, at the Sheraton Lagos Hotel. Themed “Reinventing Public Relations Proficiencies with AI,” the event explored the convergence of storytelling and cutting-edge artificial intelligence.

Hosted by the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in partnership with Upticomm Marketing Company, the summit brought together industry leaders, communication professionals, and technology enthusiasts for two days of enriching presentations, discussions, knowledge-sharing, and networking.

Distinguished keynote speakers and faculty included Amaechi Okobi, Chief Brand and Communications Officer at Access Corporation; Joseph Edgar, Founder and CEO of Duke of Shomolu Productions; Victoria Ndidiamaka Uwadoka, Manager, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at Nestle Nigeria Plc; Omoniyi Ibietan, Head of Media Relations at Nigerian Communications Commission; and Bolaji Okusaga, Chief Executive Officer of Precise Platforms Limited, among others.

The event was graced by the Goodwill Ambassador of the Summit, Tokunboh George-Taylor, Managing Director of Hill+Knowlton Strategies Nigeria, while the fireside chats were moderated by Uche Ajene, Founder and Managing Director of Stephanie John & Associates, and Tolulope Olorundero, PR Consultant and Founder of Mosron Communications and Nigerian Women in PR. To enhance engagement, the organizers introduced innovative measures such as ambassadorship, fireside chats, blood pressure checks, and massage therapy.

Discussions at the summit revolved around the transformative influence of AI in the realm of PR, providing practical insights and strategies for attendees to effectively utilize advanced technologies in their professional endeavors.

Furthermore, the event saw the debut of the second Digital PR Digest, a comprehensive business communication magazine featuring stories and developments in digital public relations, as well as practical guides in the field of practice.

An additional initiative, the pre-Summit Talkshop for Francophone countries, was held in collaboration with high-level speakers from West Africa, Central Africa, North America, and Western Europe on X Spaces, facilitated by the strategic media partner Naole Media based in France.

Segun McMedal, the President of Upticomm Marketing Company, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the summit, highlighting its success in showcasing the dynamic evolution of the communications industry and fulfilling the objective of providing PR professionals with the latest resources and information.

The organizers expressed their gratitude to the speakers, sponsors, partners, and attendees for their contributions to the event’s success, with preparations already underway for the 9th Lagos Digital PR Summit, promising more groundbreaking concepts and innovations.
