Jay Jay: The Chosen One is Showmax’s Most Watched Kids’ Content.

Jay Jay: The Chosen One, an original animated series from Showmax, has gained significant popularity in Nigeria and Ghana, ranking as the most-watched kids’ content in both countries. The series has also found success in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, further solidifying its appeal across the region.

Outperforming international animation titles such as Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Paw Patrol: The Movie, Minions, Kung Fu Panda, and Despicable Me, this 13-part series has captured the attention of audiences on Showmax. Dr. Busola Tejumola, the Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, expressed satisfaction with the positive reception of Jay Jay: The Chosen One, emphasizing the company’s commitment to delivering premium, locally-produced entertainment that can be enjoyed by the entire family. She encouraged subscribers to join them on this exciting journey of discovery.

Jay Jay: The Chosen One draws inspiration from the childhood of Augustine “Jay Jay” Okocha, a legendary football player. The series revolves around Austin, an 11-year-old Nigerian schoolboy who aspires to represent his school in a prestigious football tournament. Along the way, he discovers his extraordinary ability to communicate with animals using his “magic football,” which he uses to protect them from poachers.

In addition to Jay Jay: The Chosen One, several other Showmax Originals, including Flawsome, The Real Housewives of Lagos, and Diiche, have garnered significant viewership on the streaming platform. These shows have also received nominations in various categories at the upcoming Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs), including Best Actress in a Drama, Best Writer in a TV series, and Best Lighting in a Movie or TV series.
