MOMO Hosts Symposium and Exhibition for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)

MoMo PSB, in collaboration with the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), organized a two-day symposium and exhibition focused on empowering nano and small businesses in Lagos State.

The event, which took place on November 17 and 18, 2023, at the Landmark Center Lagos, brought together various SMEs and trade associations in Nigeria. Notable participants included the West African Association for Cross-Border Trade, in Agroforestry-pastoral, Fisheries Products and Food (WACTAF), Lagos State Council of Tradesmen and Artisans (LASCOTA), Nigerian Association of Small-Scale Industrialists (NASSI), Coalition Network of Stakeholders in Agricultural Mechanisation (CONESAM), Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Royal Certification Limited, and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.

Elsa Muzzolini, Chief Commercial Officer at MoMo PSB, highlighted the importance of collaboration in accelerating SME growth in Nigeria. She emphasized the dedication of MoMo PSB to empowering nano and small businesses through collaborative solutions with NASME.

Muzzolini explained the evolution of MoMo for merchants, from a simple USSD solution to a comprehensive merchant application catering to smartphone users, facilitating transactions with or without internet connectivity.

The event featured training sessions facilitating knowledge exchange between experienced coaches and SMEs. Topics covered included finance management, compliance, security, and controls tailored to SMEs. Discussions also centered on leveraging digital tools for business expansion. Various businesses from different industries showcased their products, aiming to enhance visibility and boost sales.

Solomon Aderoju, Vice President, South West, NASME, represented the president at the event and commended the collaborative effort between MTN MoMo and NASME. He highlighted the initiative’s alignment with the ‘One Billion Naira Youth and Women Empowerment Fund’ in achieving Sustainable Development Goals for 2023. Aderoju emphasized the event’s purpose of introducing the NASME community to the MTN MoMo wallet and products, bridging the gap between innovative financial solutions and the dynamic needs of SMEs.

The event provided valuable insights for the MoMo team to better understand the specific requirements of SMEs, facilitating a more tailored business transaction experience through MoMo PSB.

Additionally, the event introduced SMEs to the MoMo N40 Million Grant initiative, designed to incentivize active merchants using their MoMo wallet. This grant aims to encourage increased engagement and participation among SMEs, solidifying MoMo’s commitment to supporting and empowering SMEs within the business landscape.
