Showmax Set for Relaunch in February 2024

Eight years since entering the African streaming market, Showmax is poised for its most significant year yet. The streaming service is set to relaunch in February 2024, unveiling a fresh look, a new app, and an entirely revamped product suite. This follows the earlier announcement of a partnership between Showmax and international media heavyweight Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Sky.

The new Showmax will introduce three plans: Showmax Entertainment, Showmax Entertainment Mobile, and the exciting Showmax Premier League. Showmax Premier League, in collaboration with SuperSport and tailored for mobile users, marks the first standalone Premier League mobile streaming service in Africa. It will broadcast every match of the world’s most popular football league across sub-Saharan Africa.

Showmax has revealed a refreshed logo and brand identity ahead of the relaunch. Showmax CEO Marc Jury expressed excitement about the upcoming changes, citing a powerful new technology platform, a bold brand representing their spirit, and an unmatched content slate. The migration to the global Peacock streaming platform positions Showmax for rapid scalability, leveraging Peacock’s success in sports streaming, including the simultaneous live-streaming of the Super Bowl to over six million users.

Known for setting trends with Showmax Originals, the streaming service plans to expand its content slate across the continent in December. This includes diverse offerings such as the first 2D animation, Twende, second seasons of popular shows like Adulting and Kwa Mam’Mkhize, and new series like Convict Conman and Trompoppie. Showmax’s Comcast partnership ensures a continuous supply of hit international content, drawing from the media giant’s extensive portfolio.

Showmax promises a substantial increase in international titles in the new year, featuring acclaimed productions such as The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Fast X, Emmy®-nominated Poker Face, and The Winter King. The streaming service has recently been recognized as one of the RoW40, a global non-profit Rest of World’s list of 40 Trailblazing Companies beating the West. Showmax was also honored at Nigeria’s 2023 BrandCom Awards as ‘The Most Innovative On-demand Video Streaming Platform.’

Showmax CEO Marc Jury anticipates a significant growth in streaming in Africa, asserting their readiness to change the game and become the leading streaming service on the continent.
