FIRST BANK AND LAGOS STATE GOVT PARTNERS TO DELIVER QUALITY HEALTHCARE TO IJE-ODODO COMMUNITY

The Lagos State Government in partnership with First Bank of Nigeria Limited has built and unveiled a new Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Ije-Ododo Community, Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), under the Ojo Council Area of the state.

The government has undertaken a project aimed at providing high-quality healthcare to numerous residents in the state. After being under construction since 2021, the facility was officially revealed to the community in a grand opening ceremony. The event was attended by prominent figures including the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, representatives of the state government, the state Primary Health Care Board, community leaders, and traditional rulers of Iba, Ije-Ododo, and Ijagemo, among others.

During the ceremony, the governor’s representative, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Mrs. Folashade Sherifat Jaji, highlighted that the establishment of the health facility was part of the SSG’s One Community At A Time (OCAAT) initiative, which coincided with the governor’s second term inauguration on May 29, 2023. The governor emphasized that prioritizing the healthcare sector was a deliberate effort to ensure the well-being of the population. He assured that the state government, under his leadership, would allocate more resources to the health sector, particularly in underserved communities, to facilitate easier access to healthcare services.

The governor encouraged community members to fully utilize the healthcare benefits offered by the facility and stressed the importance of taking responsibility for protecting its assets. Additionally, Dr. Ibrahim Mustapha, the Permanent Secretary of the Primary Healthcare Board, expressed appreciation to First Bank of Nigeria Limited and the contractor for completing the project within the designated timeframe. However, he appealed for further assistance in making the facility fully functional by providing equipment and necessary medical devices.

Representing the Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, Mr. Seyi Oyefeso expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the project. He noted that over 10,000 residents from Ije-Ododo and neighboring communities would now have access to primary healthcare services through the facility. As a socially responsible corporate organization, FirstBank’s intervention in the primary healthcare sector aligns with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach, focusing on citizenship, impact management, strategic education, as well as the health and welfare of communities in Lagos State and other parts of the country.
