The CEO McEnies Global Communications, Omolaraeni Olaosebikan, addressed UI students on the role of education, financial planning and its importance to entrepreneurship during the just concluded Premier Financial Summit ’23 event organized by the student union of the university of Ibadan.
The yearly summit is a highly impactful event graced by leading and successful entrepreneurs in their chosen spheres such as Minister of Youth and Sports Development Federal Republic of Nigeria Mr. Sunday Dare, Honorable Adeyoju Steve and CEO of Weeldrops Petroleum Otunba Wale Oladiti.
Mrs. Omolaraeni began her lecture by talking about the importance of education. She explained that education was not just about memorizing facts and figures, but about learning how to think critically, solve problems, and work collaboratively. “Education and entrepreneurship are two critical components of economic growth and development in any society. Education provides individuals with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to succeed in the marketplace, while entrepreneurship creates new businesses, products, and services that drive economic growth” she said. She described the relationship between education and entrepreneurship as a symbiotic one and urged her audience to see education as a foundation for entrepreneurship, a way to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in business.
“A well-educated workforce provides the foundation for a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, as educated individuals are more likely to start and succeed in new businesses. Similarly, entrepreneurship can drive innovation in education, as entrepreneurs develop new technologies, platforms, and educational models that improve learning outcomes.”
“Entrepreneurship education is also becoming increasingly important as a means of equipping individuals with the skills and mindset needed to succeed in today’s rapidly changing economy. Entrepreneurship education teaches individuals how to identify opportunities, develop innovative solutions, and manage risk, all of which are essential skills for success in any field.”
“Furthermore, entrepreneurship education is not just for aspiring entrepreneurs but also valuable for those pursuing conventional careers such as Doctors, Engineers and the likes. The entrepreneurial mindset is one of creativity, innovation, and adaptability, qualities that are highly valued by employers in all industries,” she remarked.
She concluded that “education and entrepreneurship are two essential components of economic growth and development, and their relationship is symbiotic. By providing individuals with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to succeed in the marketplace, education supports the creation and growth of new businesses and drives economic growth. In turn, entrepreneurship can drive innovation in education, and entrepreneurship education can equip individuals with the skills and mindset needed to succeed in today’s rapidly changing economy”.
The highlight of the event was the financial support received by four students whose business ideas were outstanding. Mrs. Omolaraeni also gave opportunities for free mentorship for as many students who desired it.
