MTN Invests over N100 Million in the Second Media Innovation Programme (MTN-MIP 2)

MTN Commences it’s Second Edition of the Media Innovation Programme (MTN-MIP 2) on May 15, 2023.

MTN Nigeria is making a significant investment of over 100 million Naira in the second edition of the MTN Media Innovation Programme (MTN-MIP 2), aimed at enhancing the skills of media professionals in Nigeria.

Through this investment, MTN Nigeria fulfills its commitment to make a positive impact on the Nigerian media industry by providing intensive training that equips participants with knowledge of media convergence, technology, and the future of integrating exceptional reporting with media technology.

The MTN-MIP 2 is a fully funded six-month Fellowship program designed for 20 fellows and facilitated by the School of Media and Communication at Pan-Atlantic University. As part of the program, participants will have the opportunity to embark on a study trip to the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and visit the MTN Innovation Centre, among other engagements.

Tobechukwu Okigbo, Chief Corporate Services Officer at MTN Nigeria, explained the process that led to the creation of this intervention, stating, “During MTN’s 20th anniversary in Nigeria, we had discussions about the challenges faced by the media in Nigeria and how we can intervene. We prepared a proposal, presented it to the Board, and received approval, which brings us to where we are today.”

Okigbo emphasized the ever-changing nature of the world and how advancements in technology have transformed the media landscape. He highlighted the importance of innovation for modern media practitioners, which lies at the core of the MTN Media Innovation Programme. He also expressed optimism about the impact of the program on media professionals and their contributions to the Nigerian media landscape.

MTN Nigeria is committed to fostering innovation in the country by investing in essential infrastructure, including 5G technology, and nurturing human resources.

Upon completion of the program, every MIP fellow will have gained an improved understanding of the telecommunications industry in Nigeria and its connection to media innovation. This knowledge will enable practitioners to comprehend and analyze trends in the telecommunications industry when necessary.

Furthermore, the program aims to enhance the quality of writing and reporting within the industry, positioning participants at the forefront of global coverage of technological trends.
