NNPC Appoints Frenchman to Head its Trading Subsidiary in Nigeria

Jean-Marc Cordier, a former vice president of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Corporation, has been recruited by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) Limited to lead NNPC Trading Ltd.

According to a statement made by NNPC, Cordier would contribute his 30 years of experience in risk management, physical oil, and oil derivatives.

The NNPC hired the French and Swiss nationals as it restructured its trading business to boost the growth and effectiveness of its balance sheet.

“A renowned international oil trader, Cordier, a French/Swiss national, holds a Masters degree in Corporate Finance with Distinction from Paris 9 University. 

“He comes into the role with a rich background spanning over 30 years in physical oil, oil derivatives, and risk management, with significant experience in reorganizing and creating a trading business,” the statement speaks of Cordier.

The Chief Upstream Investment Officer (CUIO) of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), Bala Wunti, also commented on Cordier’s appointment on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. He described Cordier as a globally recognized oil trader with extensive industry experience and networks.

According to Wunti, Cordier has established prosperous international oil trading firms in several different countries, and he promises to enhance the NNPC’s oil trading operations. “It is with immense pleasure that I welcome my friend, Jean-Marc Cordier, as he joins the NNPC Ltd family. Over the years, I have known Mr. Cordier as an internationally renowned oil trader with vast industry knowledge and networks.

“He has over three decades of experience in building successful international oil trading businesses across various jurisdictions. We are indeed excited that he will drive our oil trading activities and support NNPC Ltd to become the dynamic global energy company of choice,” Wunti wrote in a statement posted on the social media platform, Twitter.
