POLICY INNOVATION CENTRE PREPARES TO HOST 2023 GENDER AND INCLUSION SUMMIT ON NOVEMBER 28TH-29TH

The Policy Innovation Centre has officially announced the upcoming Gender and Inclusion Summit, scheduled for November 28 and 29, 2023, in Abuja, Nigeria. Themed “Building Bridges: Advancing Gender and Inclusion through the Intersection of Trade and Health,” this significant event is expected to serve as a catalyst for positive change, bringing together diverse voices, fostering commitments, and mobilizing stakeholders to promote gender equality.

Established in 2022, the Gender and Inclusion Summit was designed as an annual platform to foster discussions on transformative strategies for advancing gender equality, inclusion, and gender-responsive governance in Africa. The 2023 summit aims to provide a space to explore initiatives that can enhance gender-inclusive economic opportunities, bridge gaps in healthcare access, and promote gender equality. By harnessing the collective power of various stakeholders, including the government, development partners, civil society, academia, and the private sector, the summit seeks to encourage shared commitments and concerted action.

Dr. Tayo Aduloju, the Chief Executive Officer Designate of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, emphasized the need to consider the differential impact of trade, investment, and health policies on women, men, and vulnerable populations to advance a more inclusive society. Recognizing the persistent challenges faced by women, particularly in accessing resources and markets, and the existing gaps in healthcare services, he highlighted the importance of the summit in addressing these issues. The collaboration between the high-level forum on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Policy Innovation Centre (PIC) underscores the significance of the Gender and Inclusion Summit 2023 in this regard.

Dr. Osasuyi Dirisu, the Executive Director of the Policy Innovation Centre, outlined the summit’s focus on exploring strategies to promote gender and inclusion through leveraging trade for economic participation and addressing healthcare financing gaps. The two-day hybrid event, featuring plenary sessions, panel discussions, workshops, and exhibitions, aims to provide an inclusive platform for dialogue, amplifying the voices of vulnerable groups and co-creating innovative solutions to address inequality gaps in Nigeria.

With its evidence-driven discussions and policy advocacy, the Gender and Inclusion Summit serves as an annual rendezvous for assessing progress and challenges in advancing Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) in Nigeria.
