Robert Lewandowski Helps Barcelona Stay Top of La Liga

Barca stays eight points clear of Real Madrid.

In a 2-0 victory over Cadiz on Sunday, Robert Lewandowski netted just his second LaLiga goal since October, giving FC Barcelona an eight-point advantage over Real Madrid, who are the reigning La liga champions.

This was the third time they enjoyed such a run under the guidance of the former Barcelona midfielder as it was their seventh straight league triumph. Sergi Roberto opened the scoring before the 34-year-old striker doubled the lead as two goals late in the first half undid the Cadiz side. Cadiz however, held their own for much of the Camp Nou clash and had two goals from Roger disallowed.

Santiago Arzamendia found Roger with a beautiful pass over the top in the 19th minute using the outside of his left boot. Cadiz believed they had achieved a breakthrough but it was not to be. The linesman’s decision relieved FC Barcelona as the striker’s finish was deemed offside.

Isaac Carcelen cleared Lewandowski’s thumping header from Torres’ clipped cross, but only as far as Sergi Roberto who from eight yards out smacked it back into the goal. In the final seconds of the first half, Lewandowski scored the second goal for FC Barcelona with a brilliant low shot from 16 yards, bringing his league total for the year to 15.
